Nanton Schools Advisory Committee Update - March 2024
The Nanton Schools Advisory Committee, consisting of Livingstone Range School Division (LRSD) Administration and Trustees, Town of Nanton Council members, the Municipal District of Willow Creek, and the Municipal District of Ranchland met on February 27, 2024.
The Committee received a project update from LRSD Associate Superintendent of Business Services Jeff Perry, which included the following:
- The schematic designs will be completed by March 7 and submitted to AB Infrastructure for their review. The schematic designs will also be reviewed by a government-engaged cost consultant for an estimate of costs based on market conditions.
- A Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Charette took place to ensure the new build and modernization are designed with consideration to creating healthy, efficient and environmentally friendly facilities.
- A traffic impact assessment and Alberta Transportation Requirement meeting was held on February 6. The results of this assessment will become part of the overall site design.
Feedback from the February 8, 2024 design public engagement session was reviewed, including participant comments about the design drawings, which focused on parking lot and traffic safety, storage, learning commons spaces, bathroom locations and design, music class space, breakout rooms, and outdoor recreational areas. This feedback will be considered by Livingstone Range School Division and GGA-Architecture in developing the final design plans for the two schools.
The Committee also discussed community partnerships, decanting spaces, and the upcoming provincial budget announcement where it is anticipated that Capital Project Funding will be announced. The Committee is hopeful that funding will be approved for the Nanton New & Modernized Schools project.
The next Committee meeting will be held on April 9, 2024. For project information and a visual timeline of the New and Modernized Nanton Schools visit www.lrsd.ca/nantonschools
